Who's hating?

Interesting word, hate. My political science prof said "the side that commands the language early in the debate usually wins the public's support.". I have come back to this many times in the years since. It makes a lot of sense. He was speaking specifically of the abortion debate, about which it became clear that it doesn't matter that one side uses the inoffensive term "pro-life" because it is drowned out by the other side's vitriolic "anti-abortion" verbiage. I would update my prof's adage by suggesting that he who coins the terms and couches them in the most resonant language, has a leg up in the battle for influence, and often this includes persuading others of their version of reality. This Chick-fil-A thing is what got me thinking of this. One side has seemingly successfully tagged (pun acknowledged, re the media-reported graffiti incidences) the other, supporters of Chick-fil-A, as "haters.". Haters. Really? Who is really doing the hating? The aerosol can wielding vandals, or those serving cups of water to them? Those living up to what they say they believe by mere group assention, or those carrying out such offensive demonstrations that police are needed to keep them from escalating? Think about it.
